Why are you running for office?

I am running for the Minnesota Senate because I feel many of the people making choices for us have forgotten who they represent. Elected officials have a duty to listen to all information on a topic, even when it’s hard and uncomfortable. Bipartisan discussion is essential for results that benefit our constituents. We need more teamwork, more honest talks, and fewer fights. When two sides disagree, there is always some middle ground if we’re willing to work together and I plan to fight for that.

What experiences have prepared you to serve effectively in this role?

I have served on the Zumbrota-Mazeppa School Board for 10 years. I also serve on the Goodhue County Education District Board for 4 years, where I help make important decisions about special education across multiple districts. I also currently serve on the Zumbrota Township Board (5 years) and am on the Zumbrota Rural Fire Board (4 years). I previously served on the Goodhue County Fair Board.

What are your top three priorities if elected?

My top 3 priorities are working toward fully funding prek - 12 and special education, fighting for rural infrastructure funding, and ensuring affordability for residents as well as small business and farmers.

How do plan to address your top priorities?

I believe the first step is to look at the budget and ensure we are fully funding the needs of the people over the wants. I also would like us to look at options of a state run bank to help make financing more accessible for small farmers and small businesses. I think we also need to look at having a Minnesota healthcare public option which will help improve access to heath care but also help save money.

What do you believe is the greatest challenge facing the people you hope to represent?

I think the biggest challenges facing senate district 20 residents are high property taxes, lack of affordability, and access to rural health care.

Public service requires collaboration. How would you work with individuals who hold different viewpoints?

I have had a lot of practice with this over the last 10 years on the various boards I have been on. The most important thing is to ensure that everyone is listened to and has the ability to express their thoughts and opinions.

How will you communicate with and remain accessible to your constituents?

I plan to come back to the district frequently with updates on what is happening in the legislature and explain different bills as well the budget. I also plan to have town halls during the off session for constituents to hear what questions and concerns they have. I will ensure that my contact information is available to everyone.

At the end of your term, what accomplishments would define success?

I would define success as having education fully funded, ensuring greater protection again fraud, and hearing from constituents that I have represented them well,

I am hardworking, I show up no matter what to do the job that I am supposed to do, I see the good in everyone, and I enjoy my small rural community!
